Hello everyone! How have you all held up during this long draught? I’m still here, but since the TV Anime (series or season) is over and the manga went to a 2-months break, and the fact that CLAMP are not working on anything else at the moment, I’ve been quite away. But Card Captor Sakura is back again in Nakayoshi so let’s talk about this comeback chapter.
Cute Cabaret themed chapter title page. Sakura and Akiho remind me of little Namie Amuro but I’m sure it’s her upcoming retirement that is making me see things, and the long boots, corset and short shorts.
I wasn’t expecting Kaito’s backstory to come up right after Akiho’s, but I guess that was an intentional parallel. It is also a parallel that while Akiho was born with no magic powers, even though she was born from a family of magicians, Kaito’s true origins are unknown and yet he always had very strong powers since early in his childhood. He wasn’t always from the Magician’s Society. I wonder if his real family will have any relevance at all to the plot.
Kaito seemed very different from his current self. He sure seems lonely and wise beyond his years. And did you all notice how CLAMP used the winged-snake-like creature for the frames of Kaito’s backstory? I am sure you did. Does this mean that the creature is associated with Kaito? Does this mean that the creature is Kaito?
I have a feeling that Momo knows only a little more about Kaito than we do. They must share similar goals, since they are in it together, but they have completely independent motives.
I really like the fact that Yue came to confront Syaoran, that was very “in character” and expected from him, as Sakura’s guardian. From their conversation, we learned that the reason why Syaoran took the Sakura Cards was in order to prevent Sakura’s powers growing in an even more chaotic fashion. Do we have another parallel here? Is Sakura’s personality getting “warped/twisted” too, like Kaito’s, because of her outstanding powers?
We now also have a reason of why Sakura didn’t feel anything concerning her cards: because the cards themselves collaborated with Syaoran. I can accept that, it makes sense to me. We may scratch another mystery off our mysteries list. And another one: the reason why Syaoran felt guilty and sad whenever this subject was raised.
IN THE MEANTIME, Sakura finally took Akiho to visit Fujitaka’s library and you just know that there can be absolutelly no good after an event like this. Akiho is of course very impressed with Fujitaka’s library, a she has always seen books as her only friends (sad and yet very true for many people!).
As we all expected (given the circunstances), Sakura goes in trance the moment she thinks about the dream she had with Syaoran as the Mysterious Cloacked Figure and it looks like both of them are being transported to the dream world (or something like that).
The plot gears are moving fast! Even the editor’s tagline implies that (The fated time awaiting the two is almost upon (them)…!!)

It’s kind of nice to see Kaito when he was young, too.
I knew all Syaoran has been doing is to protect Sakura, though still not fully explained of the whole truth.
That end… is that Kaito? Why did he also involve his beloved Akiho, too (even though I know that Momo mentioned that he had to sacrifice his dear one to get what he wants)?
Yeah, at first I was a bit surprised about the next release date, but it has already been confirmed by CLAMP that it’s a typo.

I was going to write that it “feels” like it’s been a while, but it’s more like it has been a while!!
Since September 3rd is Tomoyo’s birthday and she hasn’t been on the chapters’ color pages for a long time, I actually bet on her being there this time, even though logic said that it would be a closer reflection of the actual content of the chapter, meaning more like Sakura/Akiho/Syaoran/Yue hahaha

Same! that was definitely a surprise! I was looking forward things, like, how he met Akiho, how he got involved in all this, how he ended up there in Tomoeda as a butler, what are his objectives etc etc etc But I had no thought at all of seeing his backstory since birth, literally ^^; CLAMP surprised me once again haha ^^;
Indeed, there is an unmistakable parallel between Akiho’s and Kaito’s stories, where this will get us though, no idea…
Same for the snake/dragon thing: Kaito was introduced as a human born being with great powers, there was nothing about him being ‘something else’; nonetheless, there is just no was in Hell that snake/dragon was put there just for deco ^^; We know now at least, that it is most definitely linked to Kaito, for sure! (I remember some fans theorizing it was a future cards) As for is he, himself, transform into it …? At the moment, I don’t get the feeling it is the case.Still, Kaito was introduced as this super powerful magician, stronger than anyone else so … how come he is so content and ready to serve tea and praline to Momo?! Is it just part of his butler act/role, or … who is our Diva, Momo!! Are we getting another backstory next chapter, but this time with our chocolate loving Queen hahaha
I won’t add anything about Yue and Syaoran’s encounter +the cards, you pretty much said everything hahaha
And my mind actually went somewhere else: I thought, once again, that it seemed like we will never ever see anything else out of Syaoran’s house other than these 2 sofas and that coffee table!! Always, always! Actually, I was surprised to see the entryway, and even … a plant!!! XD XD XDEnding of this chapter! Both girls are inside the Dream World, well, this is awkward ^^;; Neither is aware that the other uses magic/knows about magic, so both will probably think it’s their fault if the other was involved in this and feel responsible for it…
Shall Akiho realize that Sakura has magic, REALLY STRONG magic, and taking in consideration her backstory, I’m not so sure how she will react, especially after the tearful moment of happiness in which Sakura told her she was her very precious friend… (that’s CLAMP for you, best friend forever and ever, rainbow and unicorns, and then next chapter, CRASH! cold shower with sudden separation. Was it too good to be true?).
It also surprises me that after being compared so many times in her childhood with the “heir of the Li clan”, it didn’t click in her mind to associate ‘Syaoran Li’ with said heir, but then again, unlike the anime in which they met and talked many times, Syaoran and Akiho had no contact at all in the manga! Does she actually even know about him, and his full name…?Last word: I’d also love to hear how the Clow Book actually ended in that library to begin with!! I would say Eriol found a cunning way to put it in Fujitaka’s way hahaha But if there is another story behind it, I’d appreciate it if CLAMP went out of their way to tell us about it, even if it’s just a few panel worth of manga material about it!

IN my opinion this reference to Clow, at this point in history, isn’t innocent…
I do not know if our greatest magician has planned something, but it wouldn’t surprise me.
This even if Eriol doesn’t seem to know anything.

Somehow it doesn’t suit Kaito and traditionally, the human guardian’s true shape also takes the shape of a humanoid guardian. That is, assuming he is indeed Akiho’s guardian in the same way Yue is to Sakura.I love Momo and I am very curious to find out more about her!

That’s a very good question. But looking back at that chapter, she was really small during the scene the wizards were comparing her to Li. Maybe she doesn’t remember that anymore… We don’t know if the comparisons kept going after that.Last word: I’d also love to hear how the Clow Book actually ended in that library to begin with!! Oh, me too. I was in peace with the fact that we would never learn about it since CCS ended and the mere fact that Fujitaka is half of Clow was everything we would have about it. With Clear Card, I wouldn’t be surprised if CLAMP don’t reveal any more than what was already revealed, but it would be a nice treat if they did.LikeLike

i managed to pass the drought by re watching/reading original ccs to remind myself of clues and lose ends that CLAMP are following through on and indeed there are TONS!!
yue and syaoran scene did not disappoint! omg what a surprise to see light and dark in large form rather than in little balls of light! is this symbolic? light and dark? akiho/ sakura… or could it be sakura and kaito?? im actually loving the potential parallel between kaito and sakura here… both way too powerful for their own good… and i know ccs is supposed to be light story but im liking the looming prospect that sakuras slowly becoming darker. not that i want her to become twisted but i somehow always imagined her to have that dark side to her similar to yuuko or clow reed…. but what i would love to see even more is that she finds a way around this too much power/ inner dark side and over comes it. is this where she’ll surpass clow reed i wonder?
good grief! akiho sure does tug at my heart strings! i welled up AGAIN… sakura was just so gorgeous and wonderfully mature/ protective sister like with her in this moment. it was a nice growing moment for her miles away from her adorable naive cutesy ways… sakura was deep, understanding and fully empathetic in this moment.
OUR FAVOURITE LITTLE MAGIC GIRL IS GROWING UP SO FAST NOW!!! ❤ ❤ ❤also i am eagerly waiting to see how she deals with syaoran revelation…

I was also curious as to why they chose Light and Dark to appear, but I would guess that they are probably the most important cards? They were one of the last ones to be captured and I have this sense that they are the cards’ leaders of some sort ^^”

Me too, I wasn’t expecting it so soon, and not so “in depth”! Definitely his upbringing will have a role in his character background. How he went from a “Idontgiveafuck” kid to a “I’m here to serve you”. I’m also so curious to know how he met Akiho…and to have some light shed on what are his feelings for her. In the meantime we saw how he met the Association, and that’s something. He’s with them “just because” and that’s a first indication that he might not be, once again, a regular villain like everyone is thinking, but a “CLAMP villain”. You know what I mean. He doesn’t particularly share the goals of the Association (which are in some cases shady to say the least, as Eriol confirmed) so this also means he could have opposed them at any moment. He’s not working for them now, that’s certain.Does this mean that the creature is associated with Kaito? Does this mean that the creature is Kaito?

That’s a fear I have, that’s why I hope she’ll get out of this ordeal unscathed, both in body and soul…but we’ll see. She might be made wiser by this trial, however. The Sakura who handed the Star Staff to Mama!Sakura in TRC looked pretty wise, you know? “THAT TIME”…everyone literally vaporized our patience mentioning over and over “that time”, and now it looks like we’re finally getting there…I am scared! XDI am so relieved that next month there’s no break and it was a typo, it would’ve been REALLY hard to stand another break after we just passed one, and especially now in this part of the story, and with no anime trying to keep us busy in the meantime.

Yes, exactly. He is with the because at one point it made sense to him and he probably would take some advantage of it. But he is ready to leave them the moment he doesn’t need them anymore.I pictured it to be the missing Clear Earthy Card, but that’s ok!
